Welcome in the Galamus gorges. Meet the Saint Antoine
Hermitage fuul of stories and its famous steeple of the
17th century in the form of tower-lantern (photo on the left).
The Galamus gorges at the north of Saint Paul de Fenouillet
have been dug by the Agly and its affluent, the Verdouble,
in the Corbières.
The Agly, which takes its source on the flanks of the peak of
Bugarach, undergoes a rampof 200 meters between its entry
and its exit of the gorges, on an approximate distance of 5 km.
It was in 1890 that a road was fit out, at mid-wall, overhanging
the bottom of the gorges of nearly 50 meters. A Spanish
contractor, Ventura, and seven workers realized this work
that implied the digging of the access tunnel.
