Peyrepertuse Castle

A few kilometers in the north of La Posada,
sits the Peyrepertuse castle. Nature has
powerfully strengthened this exceptional site.
This rocky crest, which evokes
a ship hull, stretches on nearly three
hundred meters from east to west, for a maximal
width of seventy meters, and towers westwards,
at its «prow» where the San Jordi castle rises up,
at 800 meters high.

The Perpertuse castle accommodated the
Cathars up to 1240 and surrendered after
three days of seat, on November 16th, 1240.
